Verisign opens up its DNS

Verisign is throwing its hat into the “free DNS” ring, swearing not to keep information about recursive requests to its just-started service.

Verisign Public DNS is at 64.6.64.6 / 64.6.65.6, alas nowhere near as simple for folks to recall as Google’s 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4.

There is in addition the custom of redirecting unsuccessful DNS queries, which often becomes a sore point for intheknow Internet users.

“Verisign WOn’t sell your public DNS information to third parties or redirect your unsuccessful queries to websites that serve you advertisements. In addition, it provides enhanced DNS stability and protection over other options”, Kaczmarek writes.

For the advanced users, there is also IPv6 servers at 2620:74:1b::1:1 / 2620:74:1c::2:2.

There is a Terms of Service record because Verisign, like everybody, has attorneys.
