Oracle Seeks Damages From Google: Report

Global applications and cloud leading Oracle has sought $9.3 billion  from search engine giant Google around software copyrights infringement, a media report said.

Oracle maintains that it should receive $475 million  in damages in addition to $8.8 billion.

Oracle stated that Google hasn’t paid the firm for its use of Java which was created by technology firm Sun Microsystems.

Back in 2012, the firms took the problem to court but the jury was not able to ascertain whether Google used Java APIs pretty.

Both firms will meet in court in May.

Oracle reported a higher-than-expected quarterly profit as its cloud company continued to gain impetus. Oracle has been investing aggressively in its Internet-based software business during the previous couple of years in a play to take market share from competitors like Salesforce.com and Workday.

“Our cloud company is currently in a hyper-growth stage,” Safra Catz, Oracle’s co-chief executive, said in a statement.

Earnings from Oracle’s cloud computing applications and platform service, a closely watched metric, increased 57 percent to $583 million.

Oracle said it added 942 customers in the quarter for its cloud applications service, including several who changed from Workday.
