Google’s new trans-Pacific cable is prepared for service
It delivers 60 Tbps of bandwidth across the Pacific, which is the maximum-capacity undersea cable assembled — about ten million times quicker than the typical cable modem.
Along with Google, the association comprises KDDI, China Telecom Worldwide, World-Wide Transportation System, China Mobile International and Singtel. The 9,000km cable, which has expanded links to Los Angeles Francisco Bay Area, Portland San, the and Seattle, was assembled by NEC Corporation.
Of the complete 60 Tbps bandwidth of the cable, Google gets access to up to 10 Tbps, which it said it’ll use to support users including Cloud Platform customers and Google Apps.
“Committed bandwidth to this area results in more rapid data transfers and decreased latency as GCP customers deliver their programs and advice to customers around the world.”
Google is working on more and now owns four finished undersea cables, Cheung noted. Meanwhile, Google Fiber, a subsidiary company of Google’s parent Alphabet, is building up the business’s networking infrastructure within the U.S.
