Getty Images accuses Google of encouraging piracy that is picture

The US photography agency, Getty Images, has accused Google of sabotaging its company and empowering picture piracy. Today Getty will file an official charge with the European Union’s antitrust commission, Time reports, indicating a fresh phase in the continuing legal problems of Google in Europe. Last week, formal charges filed against Google, targeting the business’s Android mobile operating system.

Getty is targeting Google Images in its charge, claiming the service scrapes on pictures from third party websites and encourages piracy by making them accessible to download. In a statement supplied to Time, the bureau said the manner copyrighted photographs are shown in Google Images — in big, high resolution formats — discourages users from seeing with the website, where the pictures are for sale of Getty. In smaller, thumbnail formats, Google Images merely shown pictures prior to January 2013.

Google and Getty sought to conclude the problem three years past, but Miyashita says Google gave the photo agency just two options: accept the new picture format, or opt out of its picture search completely. Getty alleges the search firm is encouraging other photographers to join its cause, and has abused its market dominance.

“Google’s behaviour is adversely impacting not only our subscribers, but the lives and livelihoods of artists all over the world, current and future.”
