China launches first cyber-security organisation

China has established its first cyber security public organisation aimed at safeguarding national cyber security and internet companies that were directing in perform their obligations, the media reported on Saturday.

The CyberSecurity Association of China, established on Friday in Beijing, consists of internet companies and academic institutes, people including popular internet security firm Qihu 360 and Tencent, the Global Times reported.

The organisation will concentrate on encouraging self discipline in the business, hastening the establishment of cyber security studies and industry standards and participating in international co-operation.
During the launching, Wang Xiujun, deputy manager of the China Administration of Cyberspace, the nation’s net regulator, said that she expected the organization could highlight on safeguarding the nation’s internet security and building up China as a net power, while bringing more cutting edge cyber security businesses and ability to improve the sector’s ability.

In February, China established its first specific fund for cyber security with an initial capital of 300 million yuan ($46 million) to realise the country ‘s strategic aim of becoming a strong net power.
