The Federal Bureau of Investigation has apparently interrupted and shut down a huge on-line child abuse network after hacking into the so called dark net in an operation which could lead to 1,500 prosecutions.

Vice Motherboard reported that federal researchers used an unprecedented way of hack into the dark internet bulletin board website named Playpen. The bulletin board was established in August 2014 and within one year had with 11,000 unique visitors accounts 215,000 each week.

The report stated that the FBI confiscated the North Carolina-based server but didn’t shut it down instantly.

The dark net is a section of the net by or not discoverable by traditional means, including through a server search inputting a web site URL.

Playpen was seemingly the biggest child abuse website found to date. It upload any pictures they enjoyed and empowered users to sign up. Based on court records, the main function of the site was to advertise and distribute child pornography.
