SoftBank Turns to SDN for VPN Upgrade

SoftBank has a functional pain stage that afflicts communications service providers world-wide: delivering new VPN services to customers economically and promptly.

And it is not efficient in other ways also. “Our workload increases in regards to the amount of customers deployment is ineffective,” added the SoftBank exec, who said that VPN-connected capex and opex prices have been increasing because the operator still uses high-priced CPE products.

The result will be a self service VPN offering that customers can get through a web portal, that will empower business users to efficiently construct their own services using virtual network functions (VNFs). The Tail-f technology will act as the automated provisioning tool for virtual and physical components, making it simple for customers to add and alter VPN programs as and when they need to.

This, then, is a commercial implementation of the abilities examined by European Advanced Networking Test Center AG (EANTC) before this year.

By using proper data models to be created by Yang, operators including SoftBank can develop and empower new services without having to update or replace their present service management platforms. “We should quit with the silly OSS jobs,” said Vallin. “When you begin developing a fresh service, you might not have to begin a six-months development job?

SoftBank intends to start the updated service in February 2016, said Hironori. The results, if everything works to intend, will be a more customer- responsive, friendly and fast -to-provision service which will help SoftBank to reduce its capex and opex.
