But not everybody enjoys VPNs. China’s repressive authorities, for example, despises blocks and VPNs them because it believes the technology weakens the nation’s management online. The most popular video streaming service on the planet, Netflix uses a similar approach. Now, users who attempt to get the service via a VPN connection are blocked by Netflix.

Unlike China, Netflix does’t need to keep folks in the dark. After Netflix it began to block VPNs.

When the issue surfaced earlier this year, Netflix said it’s working to remove geographic limitations and clarified its position, but until it can, it’s going to continue to block proxy services and VPNs.

The moral rights and wrongs of some of its subscribers and the skirmish between Netflix are not white and black. On the other hand, many people that use VPNs say they just need to protect their secrecy and consider they should have the right to do that.

Netflix, solitude and VPNs

Advocacy group OpenMedia takes the privacy-friendly position, and it started a request requesting its VPN prohibition to be rescinded by Netflix. More than 46,000 individuals already signed. OpenMedia recognizes the demand to protect its IP of Netflix but also considers VPNs are significant utilities:

“VPNs are among the finest and most accessible tools that Internet users must protect our privacy. Other services are more upfront about their ability to obtain content that is restricted. It is like transferring your computer or other apparatus without actually transferring it.”

The problem is not cut and dry. A great resolution will come when Netflix can lose its ban on privacy and has to block specific content as a result of licensing problems -enhancing technology.

Given the preponderance of snooping by other bad actors and government agencies, consumers who value solitude are wise to contemplate the use of VPNs. Piracy, nevertheless, is erroneous, and those who use VPNs to purposefully get blocked Netflix programming should consider the ethical consequences of their activities.
