Lesson from an IT professional

Any IT Professional will understand that when you start out in the occupation, a big element of problem solving comes from studying on community newsgroups or finding the answer alone; either by teasing your buddies. If you are working under pressure with little guidance a lifeline.

One of my first duties was to set up a network laboratory disconnected from the production network. I was attempting to configure Cisco ASA, the laboratory security apparatus, which joined firewall, antivirus, intrusion prevention and other network security abilities.

The aim of this was to restrict links to port 3389, which is used for remote desktop services from the production server.

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) would then route by means of a substitution to user systems for testing.

All wasn’t what it appeared as you will probably guess by this point in my web log chain. In the mix of following and panic complacency, I’d forgotten to cover myself by backing-up. The ASA security apparatus was totally clean when I walked in the following day, much like my recollection following the (un)anticipated hangover.

It instructed me to make back-ups whether your setup is 20 lines or 150 for Quality of Service (QoS) alone. Luckily, there are tools that have made matters simpler for me ever since.

The pleasant thing relating to this strategy is you could centrally manage all your devices from one “point and click” games console, which is an excellent method to take the pressure away when learning new things.
