Google Lifting Network Veil

Google says it is “pulling back the curtain” on its international network architecture, providing details of its fifth-generation Jupiter network. It is part of what the software giant calls a more open and collaborative way of working with the networking community.

In a site located here Google Fellow Amin Vahdat provides a high level look at its network links to a paper which was previewed in the Open Networking Summit, along with has developed and is being openly presented in the ACM/SIGCOMM convention. That paper and three other papers released at the exact same convention highlight both Google (Nasdaq: GOOG)’s contributions to networking research as well as the worth of its own manner of working, which makes research section of its own production teams as well as their development procedures, Vahdat claims.

The organization sees this strategy as significant both to bring the top talent to its own attempts and to determine the way that community takes with future technologies.
The program giant understood ten years past that configuring and handling conventional switched networks manually was an error prone procedure that will not scale to its needs, which led it to embracing the set of network organization principles that became applications-defined networking (SDN), now an industry-wide initiative and critical underpinning of the New IP. Center to that transition to SDN was going from distributed routing to rationally centralized routing below the control of “a single dynamically-elected master,” he writes.
The opinions of the creation procedure notifies the direction of the research.
Other Google breakthroughs contain its Bandwidth Enforcer, a policy-based strategy to dynamically allocating wide area network bandwidth among tens of tens of thousands of programs; its Condor data center networking design procedure; and its TIMELY means of handling bandwidth allocation of several miniature networking flows in the data center.
