FCC will try to control ISPs?
Management of the internet has found countless ups and downs during the previous couple of years, plus it occasionally feels like we are on the verge of losing everything we have worked so tough to assemble. Happily, reports have started to surface this week that suggest the FCC will move to reclassify ISPs as common carriers.
After a light prodding from President Obama as well as considerable backlash from the general public, it is no real surprise that Wheeler has apparently stepped back from the controversy of last year.
Management of the internet has found countless ups and downs during the previous couple of years, plus it occasionally feels like we are on the verge of losing everything we have worked so tough to assemble. Intrusive and overreaching bills like SOPA and PIPA were narrowly averted in 2012, and last year FCC chairman (and former lobbyist) Tom Wheeler proposed a contentious alternative that will efficiently give ISPs carte blanche to make pay-for-precedence fast lanes. Happily, reports have started to surface this week that suggest the FCC will move to reclassify ISPs as common carriers.
