Facebook, the Silicon Valley Campuses of Google Confront Flooding Hazard: Report
At a time when a rise in sea levels is endangering across the world, Cisco, Google and Silicon Valley giants Facebook may be worried as their campuses are at the danger of being flooded.
A new outlook by a team of scientists has warned that these firms face the prospect of their Silicon Valley headquarters The Guardian reported.
Even under optimistic scenarios where the most serious increases are avoided by quick reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, the firms may face cut off from others all over the world, the team noted.
“Without substantial adaptation, social media giant Facebook’s new campus seems most at risk,” the report included.
“Facebook is quite exposed. They assembled on a site that was very low. I have no idea why they picked to construct there. Facebook believes they are able to pay enough to shield themselves,” Lindy Lowe, a senior coordinator at California’s Bay Conservation and Development Commission, was quoted as saying.
The level that Facebook gave to its premises WOn’t be satisfactory from saving it from a 1.6-feet increase in sea levels by the end of the century.
But should feet disintegrate, the sea water will be pushed up beyond six- and swamp both.
“Google and Facebook will have to redo their campuses. I don’t believe there’s been much success in getting Google to support adaption, it’s not actually on their radar,” Hill added.
