Disappointed as WhatsApp, Facebook strategy to finish support for BB10 OS
It isn’t only WhatsApp that determined to stop support for BlackBerry OS 10 services by the end of 2016, Facebook also is leaving the BlackBerry platform after declaring to discontinue support of its own application programming interfaces (APIs) for BlackBerry. The Canada-based company is disappointed.
In a blog post, Lou Gazzola, senior supervisor in charge of BlackBerry’s Program Ecosystem and Programmer Outreach team, said they’re disappointed as they understand so many users adore these programs (Facebook and WhatsApp).
“Our dedication to BlackBerry 10 and to programmers hasn’t changed – we understand our developer community continues to be among the most powerful proponents of BlackBerry 10 and they’re creating thousands of programs each month,” he added.
Facebook’s selection comes as BlackBerry starts to look beyond its own operating system.
This past year, it introduced its own Android-established cellphone known as the Priv.
“As a means to support them and to encourage new programs, we are now featuring a number of the top native programs on BlackBerry World in a list called ‘Great Programs on BlackBerry’. The class is a record of 20 programs, featured for a couple of weeks, once per month, like the manner we feature programs on the BlackBerry World Carousel,” Gazzola posted.
Other mobiles to be reach by the WhatsApp selection contain Nokia S40 along with the Nokia Symbian S60 along with the old Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1 operating systems, The Verge reported.
“While these mobile devices have been an essential portion of our narrative, they do not offer the sort of abilities we need to enlarge our program’s attributes in the future,” the firm wrote in a blog post.
“This was a tough choice for all of us to get, but the correct one to be able to provide people better strategies to stay in contact with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp,” it included.
The organization urged “updating to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone prior to the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp”.
Almost one billion people around the planet are employing the program that was most popular with 42 billion messages being traded Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg declared lately.
