Connecting an external hard disk to your home network
The disk drive vanished because at least one device in your home network from your notebook has the incorrect information address. A bigger network overhaul will not be required should you repair that.
But the “My Book Dwell” hard drive does not come with an IP address. Instead, an address is put to it by the router, which functions as an information traffic cop of the network.
For the reason that it uses two network routers which are linked to every other, but your network is a unique case. In order for this set up to operate, both routers must be putting the exact same group of IP addresses. That would explain why your notebook can not find the My Book apparatus if they do not.
Assess your first modem-router to determine what range of IP addresses it puts to other network devices. Ensure the brand new router additionally puts IP addresses in that range.
If the My Book was put an IP address that is appropriate, your notebook should find it.
Using long-term “static” IP addresses is complex and unnecessary.
