Canadian Appeals Court Orders Google To Censor Worldwide
The exact same thing has been occurring in Canada while most focus has been on the European Union desiring to visit its censorship demands on Google internationally. Google lost an appeal and might need to censor content on websites outside Google Canada this week.
Google did so, however just for those using the Google Canada website.
A Canadian judge in British Columbia ordered that Datalink is removed by Google from its search results. All of them, globally. Google appealed it’s lost that appeal.
The Globe And Mail has more informative data on the opinion, and there is even more via Techmeme. Google, mentioned in the report, has not determined if it’ll appeal further. I guess that is not unlikely. But what is essential about this particular case is the fact that it is farther along today than the scenario in France, which only occurred.
In France, Google’s been allowed 15 days to produce Appropriate To Be Forgotten censorship occur worldwide. It will be fined if Google fails to do so. But Google has some appeal time here. Before the specific situation in Europe is worked out the specific situation in Canada may play out.
