Technology firms will grin and bear the effects of a Brexit as they may be compelled to serve an increasingly fragmented set of international customers, said Box CEO Aaron Levie.

“This is a mismatch between the possibility of the web and how today’s laws work — but there isn’t any clear remedy in any expected period of time,” said Levie.

The technology sector flourishes in an interconnected environment, which encourages cooperation and innovation, he said. Whatever creates more barriers or additional separates markets sabotages the power and promise of technology though the results of a Brexit have yet to be completely comprehended, he said.

Business leaders doing business internationally are now fighting to determine the best way to fix company strategy in a post-Brexit world.
“Philosophically, you’re going to see lots of opposition or disappointment from tech firms, just because the very nature of technology is that we usually are advocating for more open, more international societies,” said Levie. “Our job is simply to adjust to the realities of what folks are voting on and try and move forward.”

Though Europe makes up a little part of the international company of Box, it’s strategically crucial, said Levie. Most are disappointed with the results of the vote, but stay positive due to the resilience of the united kingdom, he said.

“This isn’t what anybody needed to be coping with,” said Levie.
