Accounts hacked; users exposed to mature websites
In a recent disclosure, it is often found accounts have been undermined to send out malicious to encourage tweets mature dating websites, pornographic content on the micro blogging site.
Based on a Symantec investigation, the hackers earn money by redirecting other users to see with these sites that are malicious through applications that are partnered. During the course of investigation, Symantec disclosed that numerous reports belonging to well-known characters also.
During our investigation into this effort, we found a few famous endangered Twitter reports belonging to electrofunk a global journalist as well as group Chromeo from The Telegraph.
Another characteristic found by the security company pointed out that the attackers didn’t use the accounts that were compromised to other or tweet. They follow other users with the hope that they are going to see the endangered profiles out of interest and used like tweets.
If an user sees the profile that is endangered, they are going to see tweets that promise to offer free sign ups to view “hot shows” over webcam, or dates and sexual encounters.
They do this through affiliate programs that pay folks for getting users to sign up. Based on our research, we consider the affiliate involved in the Twitter account compromises would bring in US$4.00 for each man who signs up for the site,” said Symantec’s site.
Users should try and avoid any uncanny Twitter report, whose profile photos, biographies, and complete names appear malicious. Additionally, tweets included talks on webcam sessions and language, mature content, and sexual meetings.
“The profile picture that is authentic is frequently transformed to a picture of girl, usually in a suggestive pose or wearing lingerie/swimwear. Nevertheless, some endangered accounts use the default option “egg” avatar linked with new Twitter accounts, keep the authentic profile picture or, in some situations.”
Symantec shortened URLs and has notified Twitter, Bitly, Google from supplying data on the accounts.
