AT&T, Verizon May Be Subject to Limitations on Company-Data Contracts: Bloomberg

AT&T and Verizon (VZ) shares were marginally higher on Friday even after Bloomberg cited unnamed officials as saying phone companies should facilitate some conditions they offer to competitors leasing lines that take information for businesses. The report cited officials as saying a planned order by the U.S.

Federal Communications Commission would forbid some contract provisions which were demanded by AT&T and Verizon and by Frontier Communications (FTR) and CenturyLink (CTL). Bloomberg said the order relates to committed network connections frequently used by banks, manufacturing companies, schools and other organizations that need to transport considerable amounts of information.

The stock is up 0.19% or $0.08 after the news, striking $38.67 per share. About 9.72M shares traded control. AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has increased 19.40% since September 1, 2015 and is uptrending. It’s outperformed by 12.71% the S&P500.

AT&T Inc. supplies telecommunications and digital entertainment services. The firm operates through four segments: Consumer Mobility, Entertainment Group, Business Solutions, and International. The Business Solutions section offers wireless, set tactical, heritage voice and data, and wireless gear services to governmental, business, and wholesale customers, in addition to individual subscribers.

The Consumer Mobility section offers consumers wireless services, and wireless resale and wholesale subscribers, like long distance and roaming services. This section supplies postpaid and prepaid wireless voice and data communications services; consulting, marketing, and program and colocation services; and sells various handsets, wirelessly enabled computers, and personal computer wireless data cards through company-owned shops, representatives, or third party retail stores, also as accessories, including carrying cases and handsfree apparatus. The International section offers video entertainment services to wireless data and voice communication services, along with residential customers in Latin America in Mexico. The business was previously called SBC Communications Inc. and changed its name to AT&T Inc. in November 2005.
