Cisco on Internet-Connected Auto Technology

Technology and vehicle companies are forming coalitions to expand services that bait automobiles up to Internet, especially as the race -driving cars heats up.

Hyundai said Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Cisco Chief Executive Chuck Robbins in Seoul met and consented to co-develop in-vehicle network technology for high speed transport of considerable amounts of information.

“The alliance is part of Hyundai Motor’s broader strategy to create an industry-leading linked auto stage through collaboration with leading technology partners,” it said in a statement.

Other coalitions include Toyota Motor Corp’s growth this month of a five-year old partnership with Microsoft Corp -connected vehicle services for dealers and owners.

The Japanese automaker has created Toyota Connected at its US headquarters in Plano, Texas, to combine its present connectivity services and function as the firm’s “data science” hub. Microsoft has a 5 percent stake in the endeavor.
