One of the most powerful engineers of Google, Amit Singhal, will be stepping down after this month to spend more time with his family and dedicate time to giving back something to society.

Amit Singhal received a Bachelors of Engineering degree from IIT Roorkee and was born in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh in India. He received an MS degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, in 1991 and continued his computer science instruction in America.

Singhal went on to get a PhD in 1996 and continued his studies at Cornell University, Ithaca in New York. It was at Cornell that Singhal studied with Gerard Salton – a leader in the area of information retrieval, also called ‘the father of digital search’. Singhal got hooked on to solving the issue of search and following the PhD, he joined AT&T Laboratories where he continued his research in other relevant subjects and information retrieval, language retrieval.

There was after joining Google. He was named a Google Fellow as a benefit for rewriting the search engine in 2001. In 2011, he was granted the Outstanding Achievement in Technology and Science Award in The Asian Awards. Along with this, he was likewise elected as truly one of the members of the National Academy of Engineering.

Singhal and Google appear to really have a growth narrative that is harmonious.
