The Supreme Court’s prohibition set up since September 2012 applied to the international and localised websites of YouTube.

The brand new website, youtube.com.pk, is now live but inaccessible inside Pakistan, as well as the authorities and Google expect its development will mean the Supreme Court will lift the prohibition, even if just partly.

If Google complies, it may fulfill a condition for revoking the prohibition determined by the Supreme Court.

A Google spokesman affirmed that authorities are permitted to request the removal of YouTube videos that break local laws.

“We’re in an extremely close-term kind of matter. The roadblocks are eliminated,” the source said.

A Supreme Court official said the following court hearing about the prohibition is in fourteen days.

Users in Pakistan continue to get YouTube using Virtual Private Networks and proxy servers.

Blasphemy is a controversial problem in Pakistan as well as the state has found brutal riots triggered by content.

In 2010 Pakistan shut down Facebook for almost two weeks over its hosting of pages that are supposedly blasphemous. It continues to confine a large number of links that are on-line.
