Google accuses Hollywood of ‘attempting to censor the Internet’

Google  assaulted a state attorney general as well as Hollywood for trying to attain the aims of years old Internet censorship law.

He mentioned e-mails reported to have come from the top executives of Sony by The Brink, detailing an endeavor to block sites alleged to release copyrighted content. Walker said that the MPAA’s longtime law firm drafted a letter sent by Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood.

Hood said he’d worked with the MPAA but differed with the declarations of Google. He said he is worked on a broad array of problems with Internet companies, including child pornography, drug trafficking and international counterfeit rings. “We are simply saying that if a site has 90 percent prohibited substance, they should not place them in search results,” he said. “We have been working on these problems for a long time, and Google full well understands that.”

The MPAA slammed Google’s standing as “black.”

Representatives for Sony and Google did not react to requests for comment.

The move indicates a turning point in the continuing struggle over Internet censorship, which led to demonstrations around the Web in the year 2012. But critics said the bills could impact legitimate websites too. SOPA and PIPA laws was believed to have been abandoned by their proponents, but the claims of Google suggests it may have been restored.

The remarks of Google also increase the fallout over the hacking of Sony. For the last two weeks, hackers who promised to have stolen troves of worker information and broke into the organization ‘s computer systems, including executive’s e-mails. A lot of these files have been released online.

Sony has just affirmed the veracity of a few files which have surfaced. Others firms, nevertheless, are beginning to come. Google has criticized the MPAA, Sony and others for their alleged activities, which were disclosed in the records.

Sony has not reacted to the accusations of Google. It also did not react to the December 12 report from The Brink about its alleged actions with the MPAA.
