Technology giant Microsoft has got a messaging-program programmer founded by an Indian as the US-based applications company plans to reinforce its standing in the emerging age of combining the power of human language with complex machine intelligence.

Microsoft got California-based Wand Labs, a startup which constructs messaging technology for programs, founded in 2013 by IIT Delhi alumnus Vishal Sharma who was formerly the vice president, products at Google.

The conditions of the acquisition weren’t made public.

During the Build summit in March, Mr Nadella told thousands of programmers he envisages a technological future where computer software have natural dialogues with individuals and can learn the human language.

Mr Nadella had said that Microsoft needs to choose the power of human language and use it pervasively to all interactions and the computing interface.

Mr Ku said Wand Labs’ technology and ability would reinforce Microsoft’s standing in the “emerging age of conversational wisdom where we bring together the power of human language with complex machine intelligence, connecting people to knowledge, advice, services and other individuals in more useful and natural manners”.

The acquisition builds on and expands the power of the Microsoft’s search engine Bing, its cloud computing platform Azure, Windows platforms and Office 365 to empower programmers everywhere.

Describing Mr Sharma as an “seasoned leader and entrepreneur” in the subject of search and knowledge, Mr Ku said the Wand team will make important contributions to Microsoft’s initiation of Bing intelligence.

Mr Sharma said it’s an “exciting time” to be working in the area of semantics and dialogue, an area that Mr Nadella has emphasized as core to the future.
